However if you want to use an external device for games then it has to be a usb 3 0 and a minimum of 256gb. Copying files from a usb does work. The wii u does not have any support currently for external movies.
The external setup is merely for game saves. If you have a usb flash drive or external drive you can use it to play videos on the xbox one.
